107 decibels

April 3rd, 2025 Happy Birthday to our daughter Sonja!

Last night we ate at a Japanese restaurant on the ship.  The food was great and cooked to order in front of us but the noise level was incredible.  We registered 107 decibels - not great for our long term hearing! The chefs are all well versed in rock from the 60’s and 70’s and sang while cooking assuming we would all sing along which we did for the most part. They know their demographic to be sure.

That meal ended quite late and we came “home” stuffed - something we’ll have to watch to be honest.  As we lost yet another hour last night we woke up quite late and had previously signed up for a noon wine and cheese tasting.  Not quite sure how we planned that but at any rate, we had yet to have breakfast when it was time for the tasting so we quickly ran to the always open cafeteria and wolfed down a sandwich before the event.

The tasting was better than I expected with a lot of discussion about pairing the correct cheese with a given wine and how that affects the taste of the wine.  We ended up having a fascinating discussion with a Canadian woman sitting with us about the state of the world today.

Most of you know I had a rather extensive repair of my right shoulder after an event on our bike trip in Europe last fall.  I’m now 2 months out and doing well - ahead of schedule I’m told.  Ed has morphed into my onboard physical therapist and is doing a great job.  He’s seen here relaxing on our deck after a grueling session with me.  The weather is cold……..
