Good Life Abroad Lunch

 April 29, 2025

Both groups of TGLA met for lunch today - about 26 people.  This turned out to be one of our better meals here in Paris as many have been just mediocre with the exception of the pizzas we’ve had.  Eating out is expensive and we’ve restrained ourselves quite a bit though that is going to change for the next few days.  After a meal out we typically eat at home for the next meal consuming exceptional bread with yummy cheeses and a side of fruits & veggies.  We do walk all of this off, logging 5-6 miles per day- at least I think/hope we do as my clothes are not any tighter.

11ème arrondissement

The restaurant was in the 11th arrondissement which is a bit of a hike but we walked there, ate lunch for a couple hours and then headed to the nearby Père Lachaise cemetery where many famous people are buried including Francis Poulenc, Chopin, Edith Piaf, and Jim Morrison  (that’s but a tiny tiny list of those buried there.). It’s a huge place on the side of hill with a walkway made of very irregular cobblestones.  Today’s heat, the first we’ve had, made it a little tough to consider finding all the famous graves plus my post-op shoulder has been talking very loudly to me lately.

On our way to the cemetery we passed a girls’ school with this plaque outside dedicated to the 1200+ Jewish girls from this arrondissement removed and sent to the death camps.

That was quite sobering to say the least so for something more uplifting we made our way to the cemetery.

Here are a few shots:

Jim Morrison’s grave above is squeezed in among many others.

French composer and pianist Francis Poulenc

Frédéric Chopin - quite beloved

We were quite done for the day and took the métro home to our cozy apartment, stopping to get a gelato on the way.  Yum!

Time to do the laundry.
