New York by night

Leaving the states

Good morning!  Last night was so lovely leaving the harbor amidst the glow of NYC lights.  We passed the good lady herself, the Statue of Liberty, and explored the ship a bit.  We stopped by the comedy venue here - just ok but then I know I am a harsh critic. Music was blasting on the upper deck for everyone to dance but few were doing so as it is open air and it was raining.  We did discover a library and a card room  which are both quiet places.

Internet has been lousy until we bit on the pricey StarLink option so I can now upload pics and otherwise entertain myself.  I had counted on my iPad being my primary source of amusement - ebooks, bridge card games etc. so to not have connectivity was an issue.  It’s just money, right?  Seeing it fly out of the window is always a bit painful though.

We slept well but woke to find we had hardly moved overnight - not sure what’s going on there!!!

Update: we couldn’t move last night due to bad weather.  Interestingly, the refueling takes place not in the harbor but out in the channel - but just out of the shipping lane.  Maybe due to the draft of the ship with all that fuel on board?

  1. It looks like it was a beautiful night leaving the city. Interesting about how they refuel. I would have thought it was a land based refill while docked but with it being a ship, your guess is probably right.
