Stockholm: Modern Art Museum and we board the ship

 May 18, 2025

Sunrise here is 4:08 a.m. with sunset@ 9h 20 p.m.  It is decidedly odd to wake for bathroom needs around 4 a.m. and have the sun be up!  Thank heavens for black out sleeping masks. We are missing Paris, its energy, diversity and overall vibe.  Things here feel more restrained and generally buttoned up.

We said goodbye to Margie and Jurg who were returning home to Zurich after a bit more sightseeing and then we  packed up once again before heading to the modern art museum.  It’s a great museum and we were truly able to fully enjoy it as there were so few people there - no jostling for position to get a good view of an art piece.

Our walk there:

A couple interesting pieces by Ragnar Sandberg from the 1940’s:

And one of my favorites, Magritte:

There was a large installation on women’s health and another on architectural design.  After that we circled back to the hotel to pick up our luggage and then boarded the ship - the Viking Vela.  It’s lovely, (too huge of course) and very up to date.  The level of staffing, the decor, the food, the everything is head and shoulders better than our trans Atlantic cruise on Norwegian.  Best of all, Larry and Laura are just next door. We do have less storage in our stateroom than on the previous ship which surprised me a bit.  Before dinner we attended a snooze fest of a lecture on a Viking warrior and then went off to dinner.

Sunset tonight:

  1. Oh, I can't wait to hear more about your experience on Viking. I never thought to ask which cruise line for this part of the trip. I can only imagine it is considerably better.
