Shopping in our neighborhood

 April 19, 2025

This morning we did our shopping.  We are close to Les Halles where there is a big Monoprix- the big one is kind of like a Target with groceries, clothes and housewares etc..We loaded up on the basics at the Monoprix and then went to the many little shops in our neighborhood (Montorgeuil) which is apparently well known for its cafés & shops : boulangeries (bakeries); patisseries; meat markets; fromageries (cheese shops), and a large green grocer with lovely fresh fruits and veggies. There are wine shops too but plenty of wine is available at the Monoprix and small groceries as well - 7 euros for a decent bottle!

The street itself is mostly all foot traffic but bicycles and delivery trucks are allowed. It’s hard to capture the hustle bustle of the street in a photo but I’ll keep trying! Below is an early morning pic from our window.  By late morning it’s packed with people until after midnight. Our street is Rue Marie Stuart and just around the corner is Rue Montorgeuil.  We are on the 6th floor (called the 5th here).

A delightful stroll in our neighborhood filled our afternoon.  We stumbled upon Le Passage du Grand Cerf just up the block filled with specialized craft shops: two wool merchants, a book binder, jewelry shops and a couple clothing shops.

It’s Easter time so there’s a lot of church activity

We passed a police-escorted pro-Palestinian demonstration with marchers chanting “Stop le genocide!”

Just a few blocks away we found the park we were looking for -Parc Elie Wiesel.  It was filled with folks on benches taking in the nice weather and many eating lunch or just relaxing on the grass.  There’s a pretty little pond in the center:

And just before the large children’s garden is a statue of Elie Wiesel

Our new friends came over for wine and cheese before we dined at our favorite Italian restaurant just a few blocks away.

Another great day à Paris!

  1. I love all those passages. There’s a website that has a whole map of them. Good exploration for a rainy day!
